Student Research

As a UNE student, you enjoy a wide range of research and scholarly project opportunities. Working alone or in a group of peers, you engage with faculty at the forefront of their disciplines in the pursuit of new knowledge.

Student Research Opportunities at UNE

As an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student, you are encouraged to pursue research projects — in fact, 46% of UNE undergraduates engage in research. Recent projects include an analysis of the rainbow smelt population to study why it is on the decline, the impact of new technology on reading comprehension, and quantifying bacteria growing on sugar kelp. This work is highlighted through the annual Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium, an event developed and organized by student researchers.

At the graduate level, you are part of a community that includes future pharmacists, doctors of osteopathic medicine, dentists, and physical therapists as well as Ph.D. students in the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering (GSBSE) program. Interprofessional opportunities allow you to learn together in research labs and clinical simulations, including UNE's state-of-the-art hospital simulation lab and National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded Center for Pain Research research cores. Graduate and professional student research and scholarship are showcased at events such as the College of Osteopathic Medicine Research Forum and the Department of Physical Therapy Research Day.
